|HULLABALOO - ABOUT US
Hullabaloo was founded and is still run by
Anita Spence MMus and Marie O'Connell.
Professionally we have backgrounds in
Music and Photography,
and in addition have qualifications in
Horticulture (Creating Wildlife Areas) and Childcare.
Anita Spence MMus
Anita studied at Goldsmiths College for an MMus in Ethnomusicology, conducting research into the hurdy gurdy, bodhrán, jazz and Indian music, and gender and performance. She is a saxophonist and composer, currently working on music for her band Yan Tan Tethera, and she works as a peripatetic woodwind teacher in three London boroughs.
Marie is a photographer of many years standing, having worked at the highest level of professional theatre, music and entertainment photography. Her work has been published worldwide and many of her images are now in the Hulton-Getty Picture Library. Having gained a reputation for her work in portraiture, she is now concentrating on urban and rural landscapes, and the wildlife that exists in these environments. Her deepest love is images of water and the way it is affected by light and movement.

Hullabaloo was set up sixteen years ago, originally as
a voluntary project running craft and music workshops for disadvantaged children in Southwark.
We like to feel that we are still providing alternative opportunities for children and young people who may
not be thriving within the traditional education system,
whether through disability, behavioural difficulty,
financial disadvantage or just plain shyness!
To this end, we prefer to work for clients that are able to
offer activities at subsidised cost or free to participants.
We have based our work on our own major interests:
music and wildlife
and have devised and presented hundreds of workshops
over the years to a wide range of client groups - from
Under Fives to Elderly people with Alzheimers.
We believe children's safety to be of paramount importance, and
hold current First Aid qualifications and up to date CRB checks.
We also maintain awareness of current legislation in
Child Protection and Health and Safety.
Clients we have worked for include:
LONDON TRANSPORT MUSEUM
RAGGED SCHOOL MUSEUM
VARIETY CLUB OF GREAT BRITAIN
HACKNEY AND LEWISHAM COUNCILS
MARSHA PHOENIX HOUSE
(hostel for homeless young women)
TUKE SCHOOL (SLD School)
THE BEECHES (Pupil Referral Unit)
and many more.
